About

Why it exists

There was no single place to find Filipino artists and the galleries that show them. The established names and the newly emerging were rarely listed side by side. You had to know whom to look for, and the galleries worth the trip were scattered across a dozen feeds and directories, most of them long out of date.

Tanaw puts them in one place, to keep the record of those who came before and to make room for those still arriving.

An index of Philippine fine art: the artists, the galleries that show them, and the work itself. Tanaw is Filipino: to look out at, to behold.

How the list works

Everything here is entered and kept up by hand. Artists and galleries are included on the quality of the work. Images are credited to their source and removed on request. If something is wrong or missing, tell me and I will fix it.

Who’s behind it

Built and maintained by Rey Alejandro, a designer and developer in the Philippines. I also design websites for galleries and artists: a dedicated place to keep the archive, present the work well, and tell the story in their own words.
